About Us

Although this collective is part of a sprawling network of incredible queer Māori artists, there are currently three core members.

Kauri

@planet_miaowzer

Kauri (they/them) is a multidisciplinary artist of Te Ātihaunui a Papārangi, Ngā Rauru and Ngāti Rangi descent. Their current exploration is merging their large acrylic paintings with digital paintings. They studied Applied Media Arts in 2013 and have been developing their own style over the years. Their style is an expression of their relationship to the Taiao that combines surreal landscapes and stylised portraits together in a bright swirl of colours.

Lyss

Lyss (she/her) is a multimedia artist of Ngāti Porou descent. Her works are an expression of what it’s like to grow up in Aotearoa as a biracial child and how to reclaim matauranga māori within this context. She is constantly exploring new mediums and ways of connecting them with traditional art forms.
